Growing up, I learned to make Spanish rice by watching my mom in the kitchen. It was always a delicious staple in our family. Now, I make it in our house all the time! It is so much cheaper, healthier, and tastier than buying boxed Spanish rice! Most importantly, it’s It is super quick to make and it’s very versatile! This Spanish rice is the perfect addition to a burrito, taco, or salad. It’s even delicious by itself. Measuring ingredients is not necessary for this recipe. Trust me, just try it out! You can’t mess it up, I promise!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Extra long grain rice
Vegetable or canola oil
Seasonings of your choice (ideas: taco sauce, soul food seasoning, salt, pepper, hot sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder)
Heat about 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan.
Once the oil is heated, add enough rice to cover the bottom of the pan.
Sir the rice on medium heat until it is golden brown.
Add enough water to cover the rice.
Sir in about half a small can of tomato sauce, until the color is a light red. Add the seasonings of your choice. My favorite combination is taco sauce, cumin, salt, pepper, soul food seasoning, and sometimes some chili powder. Experiment and use what you like best!
Bring the pan to a boil and reduce heat to simmer. Top with a tight fitting lid and let cook for about 20 minutes, or until all of the water is absorbed. Fluff with a fork and enjoy!
